J In Michael J. Fox?

I like to think of myself as a “Know It All” of anything back to the future related including the cast. I got stumped yesterday when someone asked me what does the J stand for in Michael J. Fox. After some quick research i found out that Michael J. Fox originally intended to use the name “Michael Fox” but when he registered for the Screen Actors Guild he had to pick a new name because they do not allow duplicate registration names.

His middle name is Andrew and did not like the sound of Michael A. Fox and wanted to avoid the Canadian stereotypes. He settled on “J” which references actor Michael J. Pollard. Sometimes he jokes around and says the J stands for “Jenius” or “Jenuine”
