The New York Times wrote an article about Deloreans last week.
The DeLorean Car Show this weekend in Gettysburg, Pa., will probably bring out many different examples of the much beloved stainless steel car, from pristine restorations to the requisite B.T.T.F. (that’s “Back to the Future”) time machine conversions. But the most interesting car at the biannual event could be an electric DeLorean, built by Dave Delman out of his garage in Jericho, N.Y.
Susannah Haldeman found the cardboard Delorean in front of Hopkins hall on the oval at Ohio State University in the spring of 2005.
The cardboard Delorean was for Art 206, 3-D Foundations. The class took 3 weeks to finish the project. The car was taken apart and given to each of the students. The class thought about making the DeLorean time machine but figured it would take too much time to finish.
I was looking at international Delorean clubs and found ozdelorean.com, which is a Delorean club for owners and enthusiast in Australia. There is allegedly only 5 Deloreans over there.
I’m sure everyone is excited that they actually made a Delorean Transformer but it was less than meets the eye. The Delorean Transformer was actually a micromaster which is basically a cheaper smaller transformer. The Delorean Transformer was named Swindler, which was a cheap stab towards John DeLorean. The Delorean Transformer is rare and probably could get a small but nice amount of money for it on ebay.
Took the DeLorean out today and had one guy come up to me and said, “My girlfriend asked me, what the hell, what kind of car is that?!” He came over and took 2 camera phone pictures and then was on his way. A few hours, the girl cashier at Wendys said, “I really like your car”.
And about another dozen people pointing and saying back to the future at the mall.
Just another day in the life of a DeLorean owner….
If anyone is interested in a Delorean rental. I’m willing to rent my Delorean. I am in the South Florida area but willing to travel but the Delorean rental cost will increase significantly. Zack Efron from High School Musical has a Delorean and a 1965 Convertible Mustang that he is fixing during his spare time that was given to him by his grandfather.
Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Gold Delorean
There were originally going to be 100 Gold Deloreans to be produced in 1981 for the American Express Christmas Catalogue, but only two were made; one with saddle interior and one with black interior.
The Deloreans were offered to American Express Gold cardholders, appearing in the December 1979 American Express catalog. Each gold-plated Delorean was priced at $85,000, which was a lot for 1979. Insurance rates at the time came to approximately $1,000 a month because a small door ding had a potential repair cost of $24,000!
The third Gold Delorean was the last Delorean to be produced ( VIN 20105). It was built using spare parts made from the first two Gold Deloreans encase anything happened to those ones.
The first 24k 1981 gold Delorean is currently located in the National Automobile Museum in Reno Nevada. Sherwood Marshall donated the gold Delorean to the museum for insurance reasons.
The second 24k 1981 gold-plated Delorean, VIN 4301, was sold to a Texas banker in Snyder Texas. This gold Delorean has black interior. The gold-plated Delorean sits in a locked glass showcase in the lobby of the Snyder National Bank and has 0 miles and has never had gas put into it.
The third 24k 1983 gold Delorean, VIN 20105, is an automatic with tan “saddle” leather interior. This gold Delorean was assembled on Christmas eve 1982 and was offered in a promotional drawing by a department store and is currently privately owned by a man in Maryland
The gold Deloreans now have a estimated value at $125,000.00
When finding a reliable Delorean to buy you want to steer away from the Low mileage Deloreans. With most cars the lower the miles the better, but this isn’t the case with Deloreans. There are many Deloreans with very low miles still available ranging from 50 to 5,000 miles.
Unless you plan to replace and restore the car entirely a low mile Delorean is not for you. Besides the usual items that will needed to be replaced when you buy a used car, you can count on replacing the tires because they will be dry-rotted with flat spots, replacing the entire fuel system, all the hoses, performing necessary safety updates, and lots more.
The reason a mid to high mile Delorean is a better buy is because these changes do not need to be made because the car has been driven over the years and will be able to be driven with confidence. If you don’t mind investing the time, energy, cost in restoring a low miles Delorean then you should definitely purchase one.
I was driving on I-95 in South Florida between the Oakland and Commercial exit this morning at 8:25 AM when I saw it; A Delorean with a blue stripe instead of the normal black stripe that some Deloreans have.
The guy was wearing a suit and his hand was outside the tiny window with a cigarette in his hand. I wish I had quick reflexes to take a picture but couldn’t. Nevertheless it was a great to see another Delorean but I have to say i wasn’t feeling the blue stripe.
I know some people have been searching for these. I searched Google and was able to find a few Delorean Buddy Icons and a Back To The Future Buddy Icon.
